About Slamannan Angling Protective Association (SAPA)
The Slamannan Angling and Protective Association is the fishing club for the intimate headwater of the River Avon. The majority of the headwaters of the river are covered by the Slamannan Angling Protective Association, and here the stream is reminiscent of an English chalk stream. The water is clear and relatively deep as it gently meanders through deep ditching cuts across lush pasture. The water lends itself to the gentle arts of upstream dry or nymphing, and dibbling wets with a good aim or holding the rod tip out. Some relatively large trout can be lured from a river of quite modest proportions. “They may not be huge, but they fight like lions.”
Location
The majority of the headwaters of the river are covered by the Slamannan Angling Protective Association.
Boundaries
The River Avon plus its tributaries excluding the single bank beat controlled by the Avon and Kinneil Angling Association, shall be divided into FIVE fishing Beats. Beat 1 shall be exclusive to members of Slamannan Angling Club. Beat 3 shall be available to all affiliated members. Beat 5 shall be available to all affiliated members. See map for beat limits; each beat is physically marked on the river bank.
The Fishing
The stream is reminiscent of an English chalk stream. Club members also gain access to beats 3 and 5 which are shared with the other two clubs on the river.
Facilities
Beat 3 and Beat 5 available to all members of Beats 1, Slamannan Angling Protective Association, Beat 2, Avon Valley Angling Association, and Beat 4, Linlithgow Angling Club. 3 and 5 are called the Federation Beats. There are three bridges to park at depending on where you would like to fish and in what conditions, marked on the beat map. There is easy foot access along most of the fishing, access is not difficult. Please shut any gates you may come to pass.
